The South Asian Coalition, and its member organizations, are part of a vast and vibrant lineage of activists, organizations, and efforts.
We are indebted to organized efforts such as Indian Youth Against Racism which responded to hate violence from the Dotbusters in New Jersey, Trikone and Desi Q which provided a home for South Asian LGBTQ community members, the Coalition Against Genocide and Ensaaf that documented the horrific impact of the 2002 Gujarat riots and the 1984 Sikh genocide, the Campaign to Stop Funding Hate and other efforts that highlighted the growth of the Hindutva movement, and South Asian Americans Leading Together (SAALT) that responded to the post 9/11 backlash in the US. All these initiatives seeded the ground that we now stand on. Over time, we will be adding profiles of various groups in our lineage on this page.
