Over the past 25 years, various organizations have offered policy recommendations to reckon with and address the post 9/11 landscape and the Global War on Terror.
Below are four key pillars to guide organizations and community members to develop policy campaigns and actions during the 25th anniversary and beyond. These pillars are grounded in the work of many SAC member groups, including Desis Rising Up and Moving (here), The Sikh Coalition (here), and the Alliance of South Asians Taking Action (here), as well as reports from South Asian Americans Leading Together (SAALT) (reports available here, here, and here). While they do not reflect the full breadth of policy solutions needed to fully repair the totality of harm during the post-9/11 era, which continues today, these pillars offer an anchor in the ongoing fight for justice and accountability.
The 25 Years Later Community Hub brings together publicly available resources developed by organizations and advocates responding to the effects of 9/11 and the domestic and global War on Terror. It is intended as an archive, a repository and learning resource, and does not represent positions of organizations included here. Members of the South Asian Coalition and allies curated the hub over the course of a year.
Pillar 1
Prevent and address the root causes that exacerbate violence and discrimination against our communities.
Pillar 2
Rescind and revoke legislation and governmental policies and practices stemming from the Global War on Terror, including but not limited to profiling, immigration enforcement, and surveillance.
Pillar 3
Pursue just foreign policy measures that do not lead to war, transnational conflicts, and economic harm.
Pillar 4
Oppose the use of the Global War on Terror apparatus against other marginalized communities, including immigrants, activists, and dissenters.
